Private Health Insurance can cover a number of different costs of health care. These differ across the numerous plans that are available to you.

Private Health Insurance policies usually cover;
• Treatments & Surgeries
• Hospital Fees
• Consultancy Fees
• Terminal Illness
• Physiotherapy
• Dental Treatments
• Tests and Scans

During a Solutions Healthcare one-to-one consultancy meeting, we will be sure to discuss what each policy does or does not cover.

Many private health insurance policies do not cover certain medical fees due to their nature. In general these would be;

• Cosmetic Surgery
• Pre-Existing Medical Conditions (If happened in last 5 years and still having treatment or monitoring)
• Chronic Medical Conditions
• A&E Admission
• NHS Prescriptions
• Self-Inflicted Injuries

The list can be more extensive than this depending on the level of cover within the chosen policy, however Solutions Healthcare will be sure to inform you of any additional omissions in your policy.

Most providers of health insurance have an upper age limit for the policy holder. Generally, this is usually around the age of 75, in some cases this can be lower.

The minimum age limit for taking out a health insurance policy is 18 years of age. However, persons under this age can be covered by a family plan health insurance policy taken out by a parent or guardian or a parent or guardians place of work (presuming that the corporate policy covers this).

Unless your Health Insurance policy explicitly expresses that your cover extends to outside of the country then it is mostly likely that you are not covered abroad. However purchasing travel insurance alongside your health plan is advisable.

If you travel outside of the country often, for work or personal reasons, then during our one-to-one consultancy meeting with Solutions Healthcare you can express you wish to have health insurance which covers you outside of the UK.

There are still options available to you if you can no longer afford to pay the price of your premiums. Some private health insurers will be able to consult and work with you to amend your policy in order to find a better deal which you are still happy with, for a lesser premium.

You can also decide to cancel your plan altogether and if you wish to do this, we can take care of this for you too. However, most insurances are for 12 months.

NHS medications and treatments require to be approved by an independent body called National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Private health care does not require approval by this board therefore can provide alternative treatments not provided by the NHS.

Under normal circumstance, pregnancy is not covered by a health insurance policy. However any complication that arises due to pregnancy may be covered by your health insurance policy. If you are in any doubt then please contact one of our advisors to find out.
